Watermelon Fundraiser

Next week, we will have local, organic watermelons for $10 each.  The melons come from Walnut Creek Farm in Alvaredo TX.  They weigh 10-15 pounds each, and are grown using organic methods by some of the family farmers who supply our organic foods coop.

Melons can be pre-purchased through the "Donation" button on our adoption blog, or paid for in cash at pickup. There is no fee to donate through paypal.

If paying online, click the paypal link (on the payment page) that says, "Add special instructions to recipient". Please give your name and email address, specify the number of watermelons you would like, and include the pickup time you prefer.

If you wish to pay cash at pickup, send me an email, Facebook message, text, or blog comment with all of the information requested of the paypal payers.

I will send an email  confirming your order to the email address I receive with your order.  Melons will be available for pickup at my house between 4-6pm Thursday, July 5th and between 12:30-1:30pm in the Frisco Hobby Lobby parking lot on Preston Rd, Sunday, July 8th.

I'm also going to offer the option (thanks to a friend for her great suggestion) to donate melons to a local food bank.  Just pay online and specify your desire to donate under the "Add special instructions to recipient" tab where you give your contact information.  I will deliver the watermelons.

If you can prepay, please do, to help with our upfront costs. If you can't, no problem.   Order deadline is Monday, July 2nd, at noon.  Let me know if you have any questions or if I make no sense.

Thanks!!!

Healthy watermelon "Snow Cone" recipe:

1.  Seed watermelon and cut into chunks.
2.  Puree chunks of melon in a blender or food processor.
3.  Pour melon puree into an 8x12 freezer-safe baking dish and freeze until solid.
4.  When ready to serve, set the dish on the counter for 5-10 minutes; then scrape with a fork into serving dishes.

This simple dessert is refreshing, with a texture very similar to that of a snow cone with zero added sugar!
